Mission Statement The University of Denver Center for African American Policy (CAAP) is a unique blend of academics, public policy, community and public service. The Center was formed to encourage public discourse and increase the flow of information on issues, policies and trends affecting African Americans. The goal of the Center is to work for and achieve a positive change in the present and future lives of African Americans through academics, the arena of public discourse, community and public service. Summer 2006 - CAAP launches fresh new redesign on Blackpolicy.org; transformation of ASCENT LIVE! radio into ASCENT Speaks audioblog; launch of new content including The Black Polls Spring 2006 - CAAP launches The Black Races: the first and only comprehensive database & interactive state map of African American federal and statewide candidates Winter 2005/2006 - CAAP launches The Black Policy Wire Fall 2005 -- CAAP launching ASCENT LIVE! radio program on KVDU 2005 -- ASCENT Press launches its first critically-acclaimed title Standing in the Gap - Leadership in the 21st Century by State Senator Peter C. Groff, Esq. and Councilman Michael B. Hancock 2005 -- ASCENT Press is a project of the Center for African American Policy and is a newly established publishing division distributing books focused on public policy issues impacting the African American community. Funded by the University of Denver, ASCENT PRESS represents a larger effort by CAAP to create a continuum of unique information-driven properties, including publishing, CAAP's BlackPolicy.org project and ASCENT LIVE! radio. 2005 -- The Center for African American Policy hosted its fourth Summer College Workshop for African American high school students. The workshop focuses on high school students, grades ranged from freshmen to seniors providing sessions covering topics such as How to Get Ready for College, Essay Writing, Financial Aid, Leadership, and Empowerment sessions for males and females. |
